Directions

The Waliënkazerne (Waliën barracks) once stood at ’s-Gravenhof 2–18. On April 7, 1945, during the German retreat across the IJssel to De Hoven, the building was blown up.

Nothing remained,  it was left in ruins. That same day, the stair tower of the Walburgis Church was also destroyed by German troops to prevent it from being used by Allied forces as a lookout post. Although the tower itself remained standing, the damage to both the church and the adjacent town hall was extensive.
