Directions

To prevent Allied forces from using the water tower as an observation post, German troops attempted to demolish it with explosives on April 6 and 7, 1945.

However, the tower, built in 1927 with a reinforced concrete structure, proved highly resistant. Despite three demolition attempts, and the lower walls being blown out, the tower remained standing. The nearby canal bridge was successfully destroyed. The resulting explosion also demolished all houses at the start of the Laarstraat.
