This monument is an expression of gratitude by former inhabitants of the Secret Annex to the people of Aalten for their hospitality, and to the resistance people who were instrumental in hiding them.
The monument was unveiled on 4 October 1947 by Mrs D.G. Wikkerink-Eppink, wife of resistance leader Hendrik Jan (Uncle Jan) Wikkerink.
