Itinéraire

Hyam Goldman was born in England on 18 May 1869. He married Ada Mathews, a non-Jew, and had been a resident of Jersey for 32 years before the Occupation. Hyam was not an active member of the Jewish community.

Hyam Goldman registered as a Jew after the First Order against the Jews was passed in October 1940. After the Second Order was registered in November 1940, Hyam was not permitted to continue running the family grocery and general store in St Peter’s Valley. Once it was corroborated that Mrs Ada Goldman was not Jewish, she was given permission to run the business. Hyam never recovered from the trauma of his wartime experiences and took his own life on 10 October 1950.

Hyam’s Stolperstein is located on the cycle track which runs beside the road through the Valley.
